Happy 250th Birthday to the U.S. Army!
On June 14, the United States Army will be 250 years old. That’s right–the oldest branch of the U.S. military predates the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In its earliest form, the Army fought in the Revolutionary War and helped establish the United States as an independent country.
Today, what began with 10 companies based in three colonies in 1775 has grown to be part of one of the largest military forces on earth.
For 250 years, Soldiers have proudly served our country and protected its people, with our oath to support and defend the Constitution as our guiding principle. We continue to stand ready to respond to the needs of the nation, and to fight and win when called upon. This we’ll defend! – Michael R. Weimer, Sgt. Maj. of the Army
We at Disabled Veterans are honored to serve those who have served our country in the military in the Army or another branch of the armed forces. We are fully dedicated to ensuring that everyone who has done their part for our country through military service has access to the benefits and services they need, such as VA disability benefits and benefits for dependents and survivors of disabled veterans.
If you’ve served, we sincerely thank you for your service. Whether you have served or not, please join us and the nation in honoring our country’s oldest institution.
Join the Army’s 250th Birthday Party
A big (and well-deserved) celebration is on the horizon for this significant anniversary. Activities on June 14 will start with wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery. The Army Birthday Festival at the National Mall begins at 11:00 a.m., and will include live music, equipment displays, military demonstrations and more. At 6:30 p.m., thousands of soldiers will participate in the Army Birthday Parade, which will also include military equipment and flyovers.
Of course, those are just the events centered in Washington, D.C. on the actual anniversary. The week leading up to the 14th will be filled with celebrations and events in and around the nation’s capitol and throughout the country.
These include a special exhibit at the National Museum of the United States Army, runs in multiple locations around the country, and an Army Birthday-themed Twilight Tattoo event at Summerall Field in Virginia. This event will be live-streamed through the Army’s social media accounts.
